Grafía Callada

2002 / 2004

Pepe Gimeno | Grafía callada

Grafía Callada (Hushed Writing) was designed to produce a book entirely devoid of intelligible words, presenting a deconstructed perspective where content and form are deliberately separated.
The initial pages of this series, based on waste materials found on the beach, originated in the summer of 2002. Its development spanned throughout 2003 and the first months of 2004, culminating in an exhibition at the Valencian Institute of Modern Art (IVAM) in June of that year.
The Grafía Callada project did not start as a fully conceived plan; rather, it evolved over time, gradually shifting its focus.
The first pieces concentrated on writing and signs, later expanding to encompass writing structures and codes, such as rhythm, order, sequence, and plot. Subsequently, my exploration extended to other forms of representation, including geometry, musical language and silence, cartography, and painting, ultimately concluding the book.
